Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

9/24/15 – Tony’s place, Conway MA

Such perfect hiking weather, and on such a special property. Tony led us on trails we’d never been on before. His acreage is wonderful.The dogs were at their best, entertaining us and going on lots of “canine only” side trips. Joe managed to get atop a very curious rock – some say he had a nap up there! Just before coming to the beaver pond, we came across a cryptic Morse Code message unfathomable to any of us, but no doubt making sense if you happened to be a SapSucker.. Aha! The Fringed Gentians were just popping into bloom and, of course, the fall asters are so delightful and are just everywhere. There was a Bottle Gentian blooming next to a Nodding Lady Tresses (a native orchid). Bag lunches at Tony’s picnic table featured a “Hiker’s Cake” made by Lissa. It had dried cherries that Joe had brought back from his trip to Michigan and pears from Paul’s pear tree! It was a cake to remember. Good thing lunch was over when hiker dog Annie decided to join us at the table! Isn’t this transition from summer to fall wonderful? Stay well, Penny {CAPTION}
