Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

1/14/16 – Ridge Trail,Buckland MA

Invigorating winter hike, ice under new fallen snow, everybody wearing spikes, temperature 38, some sunshine, then it clouded up.The spirited Thursday hikers took a wrong turn at first …. and, say no more, we were real happy when we corrected ourselves as the wrong trail was really was icy and steep. Then back on trial through the red pines and seeing where moose had slid 3 to 4 feet on the snow covered ice. A pretty pattern in the snow turned out to have been made by a twin acorn cap rolling down in the snow, then freezing. Joe Zadroga wore his new Polartec bomber hat. Coyote tracks weren’t as plentiful as last year, but were seen going uphill along a stone wall. Lisa got a new mask for Halloween (by now she has quite a collection) and for you Shakespeare fans, Tony enacted a bit of MacBeth wearing a huge piece of Birnam wood tree bark as he marched it off toward Dunsinane. Thawing out happened at Elmer’s Store where I had the Raysadilla, Donna the bean burger, lots of carrot ginger soup and chicken carrot rice soup, a couple of “Pop Pops” (BLTs) and pitchers of ice water. Alas I’ve my lost warm hat. I am going in search of it right now. Back to Elmers! Stay warm, Penny
