Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

3/23/17 – NotchView Alpine Ski Area (a Trustees of Reservations property) in WIndsor MA

Windy, 25 degrees, pretty good snow underfoot for snowshoes or spikes. The first part of the hike was through dense woods, along icy streams, and with good ups and downs. Coming out of the woods a big sunny field appeared and a small bench came into view. It was delightful to take quick turns sitting in the sun. Then the hike went uphill on the field, flat down a beautiful old abandoned country road with pussy willows in bloom along a stone wall, and past a grove of balsam firs being grown for Christmas trees, After about 2 1/2 hours of hiking, we drove to The Creamery in Cummington for a hot lunch. I had the “Get Your Goat” grilled panini with feta cheese, grilled red peppers, arugula and grilled portobello mushrooms on focaccia bread. Really delicious! Red lentil curry soup, “The Gobbler” sandwich, an amazing BLT, and bowls of chili with grilled corn bread filled our our menu. A birthday dessert of blueberry pie (made by Tony) and an organic pear cake (made by Lissa) rounded out the afternoon for a birthday celebration for Gwen and myself. It was good to be with such great friends as I tack on new number to my age. Aren’t the longer days so delightful! xo Penny
