We were hardly ever out of eyesight, or of hearing rushing water today. This rather remote State Forest land is spectacular. The first part of the hike went along a beautiful stream, but as we kept hiking higher and higher it was eventually out of sight. Then onto narrow rough paths, more like dry stream beds than footpaths. Goldthread was in full bloom, Clintonia just starting to bloom, still painted and red trillium, dwarf ginseng blooming, and lots more of course.
After a short spell when we realized we were off trail, heading south instead of heading east, we got ourselves turned around. And at last, then there they were! Waterfalls everywhere, one more splendid than the next. At last we hiked down down down down to the bottom of Tannery Falls itself- a perfect lunch spot. The falls were loud enough to drown out talk, and are probably an 80 to 100 foot straight down drop.
I am truly thankful for having been there, with wonderful friends and one great dog, today. Love, Penny
