9/7/17 – The Sunderland Caves!!!!

A day or real adventure, fun, and thrills! Along the first part of the trails we enjoyed seeing Maple Leaf Viburnum berries (it seems as if they were blossoms such a short time ago), many wonderful fungi, and gorgeous mosses and lichens. The woods were steep and rich. Once we got near the famous caves, the day took on whole new challenges. Wow! the steepness! the darkness! and the huge scope of the caves. I want to research their use by native people, because it must have been significant. Good thing we brought flashlights!!!!! And that everyone got in – and out!- safely. Lunch was celebrated while sitting on wet rocks above the caves, And a cheese sandwich never tasted better. Spelunking? Yeah, I’d try it again. I hope Irma leaves all of us high and dry, Love, Penny {CAPTION}
