Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

2/22/18 – Breckenbridge Trail “Devil’s Den” Williamsburg MA

In spite of the forecast for “snow, sleet and freezing rain”, we hiked. Lots and lots of water rushing in streams and up at the steep gorge. Everyone wore spikes and there was plenty of ice underfoot. It was tricky, especially going down steep trails. One footbridge had been improved with new railings. and yesterday Tony and Gwen trekked in and brought a plank to put over another stream where an old upstream bridge is simply not safe anymore. (We had some fun “walking their plank”.) Once we reached the gorge, we spread out and explored. Too bad that the camera didn’t capture the height and depth of the gorge, as it really is breathtaking. Back to the cars as the snow was coming down, and as it still is.
Lunch at the Snack Shack. The lobster rolls are always good, so too the clam chowder (New England style of course.) I had the “small appetite” fish and chips plate with really really great haddock, fries, and coleslaw. Jugs of ice water all around and an Amish Blueberry cake that I made for Joe’s birthday celebration. Next week we go to Mt Warner with pancakes afterward at the Hadley Sugar Shack. Sugaring is in full swing, Boydens started boiling yesterday. Yeah!! Stay warm and well, Penny {CAPTION}
