We are blessed with friendship, appreciation for our good health, and of course, for “Mother Nature”. Oh yes, and for our good dogs!. After hiking together for 6 years, some of these trails feel like homecomings to us. It was like that today on the Rivulet and Pine Loop trails. We also explored the new Sugar Bush trail that’s just being developed.
There’s always big excitement when we find an abandoned vehicle of any kind in the middle of nowhere. This might have once been a fine Chevrolet, but Tony couldn’t get it started.
Bob Leverett, Massachusetts Tree expert and friend of the Thursday Hikers, once (officially) named an old red maple for Elaine. She gets to hug it once or twice a year, then we all gather around and help her – and the tree – celebrate.
What started out as light snow continued to increase and delight us. It was so very very beautiful. At the end of the hike we retraced steps across the open field at the Bryant Estate. That’s the historic house and barns with snow falling all around.
A late lunch at one of our favorite places, the Cummington Creamery. I had Pea soup with ham and potatoes and crusty grilled cornbread and lots of water. We celebrated Nancy’s and Donna’s birthdays with a chocolate/raspberry cake. (Sorry, there was none left for you!) Twelve days until Christmas love and memories. XO Penny
