Too bad my computer won’t let me choose the photos I want, because this was one of our most fabulous hikes. But here goes with what I can salvage. Rowe is such a unique and gorgeous enviromment of imposing rock walls, old cellar holes, streams, remnants of small villages, stone walls running through the woods, and a wonderful wide old road trail leading through it. We stopped for our bag lunches on a downed tree trunk that accommodated all of us. Surrounded by huge rock formations on three sides, we all agreed it was a place of great peacefulness. Madge is up at her Charlemont house for the summer, so we surprised her after the hike and and celebrated her May birthday at a picnic place on the Deerfield River. Tony made his signature Thursday Hiker Birthday Blueberry Pie and Lissa made Madge a wildly creative Thursday Hiker birthday crown. A school group of “tubers” were floating down the river and then!!! we spotted a bald eagle flying over the river. It circled, then flew of and perched on a tree just opposite us. Out came the binoculars! Wow. It was a wonderful thing to see. On the way back to our cars, we needed to have 6 people in one car. So I sat in the rear with Sukee who quicily settled down on my legs and went to sleep. It was sweet. Next week is our annual blueberry picking hike. Can you still join us Ginni? Happy Month of August to you all, Penny
