Two days of hiking fun. A New Year’s Day hike is a “must” up here. We had ours at Tony’s house on some of his new horse trails up in his woods. His horses seemed to enjoy greeting us, including Deb’s delightful friend from Ireland, Ashling. That’s Ashling in the fourth photo, red jacket and colorful hat. It was great fun for me to talk about Ireland with her. I learned (among other things) that the Gaelic word for whiskey translates as “holy water”. (But don’t say it in Church we were humorously warned.) Following a wonderful hike we gathered around Tony’s big dining room table, opened our bag lunches, shared soup that Donna had made, laughed a lot, and left only when the fire in the fireplace was slowly dying.
Even though we hiked yesterday, today being a Thursday, we kept to tradition and hiked today too. Led by Deb at Fitzgerald Lake on some familiar trails and on some trails that that were new to us. We enjoyed returning to the wildlife blind where in summer we had once stopped and watched ….wildlife. Nothing much moving out there today though. A rock strewn area looked like a perfect place for kids to have fun (and so did we). Fitzgerald Lake itself was sort of semi frozen although ice fishermen have already been out on it. A long stretch of wetland was eerily beautiful to observe. After the hike we had lunch at “Pho” a Vietnamese restaurant where I had Vegetarian Pho: a huge bowl of tasty broth, rice noodles, tofu and vegetables. Hearty best wishes to all of you for good thing happening in 2020. Love, Penny
