Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

3/12/20 – Cave Hill, Leverett MA

Another great hiking day in a steeply wonderful area that’s rich in geological history and unique rock formations dating to when when the continents collided. Geological remains of the African continent are documented, but as I am a dunce of geological knowledge I’ll stop right there. The two abstract photos are lichens on rocks, something in which I really have interest. If you’d look through a magnifying glass at these lichens for the first time, you’d be amazed at their complexity. A beached whale (pretending to be a boulder) was lolling about one of the trails, but the dogs were only interested in running amok, digging, wading in the mud. and lapping up great quantities of muddy water. We generally see lots of stone walls running through the woods on our hikes; all are unique to the rock types found in the area and the skills of whoever made them. They surely are historical treasures of our country’s brief history. Lunch at the Leverett coop. It’s trying hard to stay in business and we wanted to support them. The BLTs, clam chowder, vegetable soup, ginger cookies, and maple soda were all delicious.We’ll return soon. At the end of a hiking day, it’s usual for us to part with hugs. Given the state of things, we elected to try elbow bumping instead. Elbow bumping nonsense ended our perfect day together. Here’s to perfect days!! Lots of love, Penny {CAPTION}
