Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

12/19/20 – Hawley Trail System, Hawley MA

A day that started at -1degrees and went up to 25 degrees with no wind and full sun turned out to be perfect for our first show shoe hike of the winter. As we were pretty much snowed in on Thursday, we rescheduled our hike until today, Saturday. We’d claim the 1800s impressive stone charcoal kiln for our clubhouse if we could. Being inside it is always a quiet and impressive experience of inventiveness and of our hard working local history. We stuck to trails already broken for our first show shoe outing, Cross country skiers. snowmobilers and other snowshoers helped made the deep snow pretty easy going. Small “pillows “ of snow around young saplings caught our attention but we didn’t come up with a satisfactory explanation for their formation. Maybe you can tell us? Nancy did her yearly “face plant” in the snow to celebrate her December birthday. Back at the trails’ parking lot we had our lunches tail gate style and with cupcakes made by Lissa for Nancy’s birthday celebration. Lissa has promised the recipe and if you wish, I’ll share it with you. Christmas and Hannukah are strangely different this year, Just keep on staying well until we can safely meet again. Wishing the best of everything to you all, Penny {CAPTION}
