Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

12/21/21 – Goshen MA

In the late afternoon, as twilight was approaching, I set out with a group of 14 people and two leaders from Hilltown Land Trust on a silent, meditative Solstice Hike. We followed one another silently to the shore of a frozen over big lake where we all just stopped because the leader stopped (no talking) and for at least 20 minutes just stood and watched the light fade from the day. There was no one telling us what to do, it was obvious: just quietly be. There wasn’t a bright sunset or any moonlight, just the slowly fading of the light on the shortest day of the year. The colors were low in the sky, mauve, soft bluish gray, lavender grey, soft lilac purples , grayed down pinks that all just gently and slowly finally faded out until all light was gone. We had been told to bring flashlights and on they went as we followed one another silently back through the woods to the trail head. Longer days? I’ll celebrate that! I;m feeling thankful, I bet you re too. XO Penny
