Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

3/31/22 – Ashfield Trail System, Ashfield MA

A bit of rain at first, 44 degrees, and (of course) high spirits for Gwen’s and my birthday hike. A wonderful 2.7 miles of soggy trails as New England’s Mud Season has arrived. Stopping to identify trees and bird calls, climbing over fallen trees, posing on the “birthday throne”, navigating through the mud, listing to the roar of Bear River below us, finding “British Soldiers and other lichens, posing in front of a pussy willow bush, waiting for a dinosaur egg to hatch, and then back to Donna and Tom’s deck for our bag lunches, remembrances of Tony by everyone, and carrot cupcakes with birthday candles for Gwen (my “little sister”) and me. Have fun tomorrow on April Fools’s Day! XO Penny
