Graves Farm Wildlife Sanctuary is a Massachusetts Audubon Property with 543 acres of forest, wetland, and abandoned old farmland with lots of stonewalls. The land is relatively flat with wonderful fast flowing brooks .
How did the two pieces of that spit rock get so far part? We shared our thoughts about…… what do you think might have happened?
Signs of Spring are beginning. I saw a rattlesnake plantain down by a brook. A Winter Wren was joyfully singeing (as they surely do!) up in the tree canopy. We heard it on and off for most of the hike.
We went off trail to have a look at a big wetland area. A single redwing blackbird was singing as were some some peepers (frogs). The bluebirds are very active in our area now. In fact, I have some checking out the bird houses in my yard. We noticed that Mass Audubon has extended the post for their bluebird houses up above the houses. We saw several bluebirds using that perch. I “zoomed in” on one, hope you can see it. (It looks rather black in the photo:) Be brave and hopeful, Penny
