This was very probably our last hike on Tony’s land as the closing on the house is imminent. A nostalgic day for all of us, graced with our friendship, our memories, our love for one another and especially for Tony. It’s shattering to see the 2021 date on his stone in the family memorial site in the woods. The lady slippers were in full, robust bloom. We saw at least 50 of them. Tony was always excited to see them and we sensed his presence there today. I posed by a stone that Tony and I had placed at the base of a tree on one very happy day. We explored the beaver pond where we once saw an astounding display of Fringed Gentian. Bag lunches at Tony’s picnic table while reminiscing about the wonderful adventures we have had over these10 years. The Bobolinks were chattering and displaying in the hayfield across from the house.. They arrived on May 15 – the date Tony predicted their arrival.
Good bye house, good bye headquarters of the Thursday hikers. Thank you, Tony, XO Penny
