Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

December 5, 2013 – DAR

Common sense would have said “stay home” but we opted for a hike in the fog and rain and it was GOOD! 2 1/2 hours at DAR, some ice on the trails, but wonderful. New trails for all of us led by intrepid trail leader, Gwen. The big news: we’ve acquired a new dog! Deb has taken in a stray. One year old, part dalmatian, part whjppet named Annie. You’ll see the first meeting of Sukee, Baxter, and Annie as she emerged from Deb’s car in the first photo. Sniffing, but no posturing, and within minutes she was just one of our dogs. Thanks, Sukee and Baxter! Deb kept Annie on leash because of not knowing if she’d bolt, but Sukee and Baxter were really comfortable with her and set marvelous examples of good dog trail behavior. We can’t wait to have Annie with us again. We had the usual stops to examine fungi, rocks, and trees and kind of forgot how dismal was the weather. But once we got to Elmer’s store for lunch we were quite content to sit inside, eat great food, dry off, and bask in the good trails and adventure we’d just had. Until next week, Trail reporter – and Grandmother! -Penny Deb will be getting Annie the requisite orange dog coat very soon. We can’t wait until Annie’s out there running free with boss dog, Sukee and role model dog, Baxter.
