First photo is from Tuesday when (new hiker) Bob and I scouted trails above Rock Ridge Retirement Community for the purpose of showing you how icy the trails still were last week. Our dear friend Gwen now lives in the Memory Unit at Rock RIdge. She was an intrepid hiker on any trail all over the USA but has had a series of strokes, and thankfully, seems quietly contented at Rock Ridge. We’ll hike on trails near there next week and then celebrate Gwen’s birthday with her. But today, at Podick Swamp, the trails were mostly clear of ice and snow, the sun was out, and spirits were wonderfully high. Good dog Livy even went for a dip! In the really wet swampy areas, long boardwalks kept us from sinking in. A free flowing brook had us thinking “Spring!”, even though more wintry days are sure to return . A curiously small pond reminded us of how much fun it used to be to go ice skating. I have a feelingt hat you might agree with that thought. With hope!!!! Yes!!! Penny
