Happy May Day, a good day to hike, to dance the MayPole, or even to protest. Our annual hike at Bear Swamp is one of our favorites as we go in search of Spring Ephemerals. Marsh Marigolds greeted us all along the road where we parked.Northern White Violets (or are they Canada White?) were plentiful. Finding a good spot to cross a brook and then finding the best trail up a hill. Painted Trillium, Yellow Violets, Striped Maple almost in bloom, Jack in the Pulpit, Spring Beauty and a shaded field of Ramps. No photos, but also saw plenty of Viburnum, Red Trillium, Squirrel Corn, Dutchman’s Breeches, Solomon’s Seal, and TIarella (Foam Flower). Off to Country Pie Pizza where I had a Veggi Wrap and once again Bob bought ice cream cones for everyone over at Ashfield Hardware. Our MayPole is in the attic just waiting for all of you to come back and dance with it.!! With lots to be thankful for, Penny
