In winter we hiked the Rivulet Trail at Wm. Cullen Bryant Estate on snow shoes and today we did the same trail without them. It’s a lovely, relatively flat trail. Today we focused on wild flowers and old growth trees. We saw the second tallest black cherry tree in MA, and will simply have to find out where the tallest one is. (Google!) This photo shows an unusual growth on a large yellow birch. These growths continued sporadically all the way up the very tall trunk. Is it where there once was a limb? Is it a sort of burl? Anyone? Anyone? Wishing I could have you on these hikes with me, Penny
