It was plenty cold, and we had such an exhilarating hike at Mt. Warner this morning. It was hard to choose which photos to send! The dogs were particularly entertaining today. Sukee and Annie are lunatics, Baxter remains our steadfast gentleman. The first photo, taken after a really good, steady, warming climb rewarded us with a wonderful view of the Connecticut River, Mt Sugarloaf etc. The fence serves to keep deer out of an apple orchard. Second photo: good friends Gwen D, Nancy, Deb, Tom, Gwen B and gentleman Baxter. (Sukee and Annie missed the photo op as they were tussling over a stick they had found). Third photo: I thought I was back in Glen Rock!! Some of you will recognize a Glen Rock look alike. It’s basalt, probably a glacier erratic, although it could have come up out of the earth …. Fourth photo gives you an idea of how huge the rock was around the side and back as Sukee and Annie scamper off in search of some fun. Last photo:we achieved the summit of Mt. Warner. Don’t start applauding, it’s really a little bump of a mountain. But Tony scaled the remains of a bygone fire tower and raised our flag/headscarf. We also planted a stick to show we were there – but Sukee and Annie quickly ran off with it! A fun trek back down seeing lots of animal tracks, and a short drive to a sugar shack where we ate blueberry pancakes, buckwheat pancakes, butter milk pancakes, home fries, sausages, bacon, maple cream, scrambled eggs, lots and lots of maple syrup, and drank a lot of water and hot coffee and maple blueberry tea. I’d love to have had you with me. Love, Penny
