We went far afield today on a 2 hour drive to get to Bartholomews Cobble today. So worth traveling the distance! If you’re interested, Google Bartholomews Cobble and read of the rich geological history of the area. At this time of year, it becomes a much visited site for seeing the spring wildflowerrs. They are in absolute, flamboyant abundance. Both acid loving plants and those that thrive on a limestone soil coexist in this unique environment. I’ve just sent you one wildflower photo, of wild ginger, but I took lots and lots more. We had our own guide and we learned a whole lot. A group photo in front of the second largest cottonwood tree in Massachusetts and a hungry group brown bag lunch photo are good souvenirs. Overcast skies, with some light rain, made the day even more gorgeous and romantic. We arrived back in Conway at 4 (I had hired a dog walker for Betty for the day) and we set our again at 5:15 for a really great lecture in Greenfield by Tom Wessels on Forest Forensics. Google Tom Wessels and see what expert hands we were in. It was a wonderful lecture … again we learned a lot. (And if we have a quiz tomorrow …heaven help us!) And, Michel, thanks again for the great hiking socks!! And Ellie, for the boots. They had quite a workout today. Love, Penny
