Thursday Hikers

Est. 2013

2/19/15 – Wendell MA State Forest

Another invigorating hike with the adjectives for the weather ranging from bitter, frigid, egads!, to just plain “nasty”. By the time we had modulated it to “nasty” it didn’t sound so threatening any more. But it sure was COLD, and above all, it was BEAUTIFUL. Our initial enthusiasm had us decide to take a side trail to “The Lookout”, adding 45 minutes to the climb up. As we climbed, a deep purple cloud bank could be seen moving in at a fast clip and the wind picked up as the temperature plummeted. We made it to The Lookout, seeing lots of porcupine trails on the way. Once at The Lookout we had a quick wind whacked “lookout” and headed back to the shelter of some trees along the downward trail. Girl Scout songs, and made up songs about the weather, kept our spirits at full tilt. Such great fun!!!
We thawed out with lunch at The Wagon Wheel. Pozole, Cubanelle sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, carrot/curry soup, black bean burger, and a grass fed beef burger made us very happy. They make homemade ice cream at the wagon wheel but by then we just stuck to hot foods. Until next week where the news will be from Mt. Tom, Stay well and happy, Penny {CAPTION}
