Light snow and 20 degrees; a penetrating cold; beautiful forest scenery; hiking on snowmobile trails for the most part. A square nose hippo rose from the snow and almost got us, but we scrambled safely past only to encounter the Ghost of Mt. Tom waiting to snatch us from behind a tree! Two and a half hours later we hiked back down to the lake and picnic area to find that someone had made us a baked Alaska on the grill!! (Yes, our brains were frozen, thus all the nonsense.) Thawing time at River Valley Organic Food Coop where the vegetables were wonderful and the bowls of soup were good and hot. Next week we’ll be on a new trail up by the Hawley Bob. Think Spring Ephemerals! Penny
