Bear Swamp is one of our favorite hiking places. We always make a mid-May hike there to celebrate the great variety of wildflowers that carpet the forest floor.. Beautiful streams, pools, climbs, rocks, birdsong, and surprises. The dogs went on their own jaunts as we tested our brains for recall of plant names. One photo is of Tony – determined to conquer using Newcombs flower guide while Gwen and Joe just go on exploring. That’s me with my new mother’s day back pack from Tara, Paul, and Claudia. (The pretty geraniums that Anna and Jason gave me had to stay home in Conway for the day.) As no one wanted to stop hiking when we got back to the cars, we took that nice little climb across the wayup to the vuew down into Apple Valley where we could see that the apple blossoms in the orchards are just going by. Then off to Elmer’s Store where Lissa had a cheddar, caramelized onion, and apple sandwich with cat ears!! She ate it with considerable gusto anyway. I had Creole chicken vegetable soup. Off to HallockVille Pond in Hawley next week with bag lunches and a blueberry pie for Lissa’s birthday. I hope you’ll be joining us, Madge! Anyone else too. Y’all come. Love, Penny
