Beautiful hike today, one of our best ever. The forest is so lush and green, and there was water everywhere. The map showing Basin Brook trail didn’t indicate that we’d be making three crossings of the very slippery-rocked Basin Brook (no bridges) . The trail is little used and only sporadically marked. It all added up to a day of great adventure, many challenges, friendship, and so much fun. Celebrate with us as scout Tony found a tree with a trail marker!, and also our surprise of finding a toad in an cold campfire. Lunch was on a snowmobile trail bridge once we found our way off the Basin Brook Trail. We enjoyed a game of “Poo Sticks” dropping sticks off one side of the bridge and seeing whose stick came out first on the other side. (Nobody won, all the sticks got stuck on rocks below.) Back onto Kings Corner Road Trail where I spied 3 morel mushrooms. At least I think they were, but we left them there. Would you like me to tell you how to find them? We made it back to our cars with thunder rumbling and about 4 minutes left before a total downpour added more water to our memorable day. Cheers! Penny
